Colorado History and Geography American Revolution Constitutional Government Colorado Government Early Presidents and Politics Europe in the Middle Ages Islam and the Holy Wars Early/Medieval African Kingdoms China: Dynasties and Conquerors * What we are currently studying is highlighted in blue. Please look at more information about this topic below. World Geography and Mountains Students will be memorizing the continents and oceans. They will also be learning about longitude and latitude. We will be creating some relief maps of our own made up countries. Later on in reading, we will use this knowledge of relief maps to create treasure maps for Treasure Island. Students will also be learning about the major mountain ranges and specific mountains around the world. Students will research one in particular and create a brochure about that mountain or mountain range.
Colorado History Did you know that the word Colorado is influenced by the Spanish and it means "colored red" ? The 4th through 6th grade students will be studying the history of Colorado. We will specifically be from the first Coloradans, the Spanish Frontier, through the Gold Rush, and how Denver and the state of Colorado have become what they are today. We will be using different activities in class and artifacts from the Colorado History Museum to learn more about our amazing state. Near the end of the unit, we will be doing a research project about a famous person from Colorado. Mr. Castor and I are very excited about this unit and we look forward to exploring our state more in depth! Please let us know if you have anything that you would like to contribute to our unit.
4th Grade Buffalo PaintingsAmerican Revolution During this unit, we will be discussing perspective, or point of view, of the events of the Revolution. Students will first be learning about the events that led up to the American Revolution, such as the Stamp Act, Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party. We will also be looking Paul Revere's Midnight Ride and the "Shot heard 'round the world." Then students will also be looking at major battles of the revolution. We will also be learning about the important men an women of this era, such as George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Patrick Henry. Students will also be looking at artwork from the time period and discussing its importance and relevance to what is happening in the revolution.
Constitutional Government During this unit, 4th graders will be learning about the government and the founding fathers that set up our government. In addition to taking a test over this unit, students will be responsible for learning the Preamble to the constitution. Below is the video that we use in class to practice.

50 States and Capitals Colorado History and Geography Renaissance Review American Revolution and Gov. American Westward Expansion (Before Civil War) The Civil War American Westward Expansion (After Civil War) Russia: Early Growth and Expansion Feudal Japan * What we are currently studying is highlighted in blue. Please look at more information about this topic below. World Geography and Lakes Students will be creating a paper mache globe where they will show their knowledge of different parts of a map or globe, such as longitude and latitude. As students learn about the equator, prime meridian, international date line, tropic of capricorn, and tropic of cancer they will add these items to their globe. Students will also be learning about different land forms and create a land form dictionary. Then we will move on to study the lakes around the world. Students will work in class and at home to memorize the lakes we study. They will also learn the different ways lakes form and why people choose to live by lakes.
50 States and Capitals Students will be learning about each of the 50 states throughout the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd terms. We will be spending about 10 minutes at the start of each class to introduce a state. We will start with Colorado and the Western States, then move the Midwest, Southern States, Mid-Atlantic States, and finish up with the New England states. When we finish studying each region will will review together and then take a test over the states and capitals in that region. Also, for each region, students will be further studying one state and then presenting it to the class. At the very end, after we have gone through each individual state we will take a test over ALL 50 states and capitals!
